Coast Guard Suspends Search for Remaining Two Crew Members of the Fishing Vessel Katmai

JUNEAU, Alaska — The Coast Guard suspended the search today at 9:36 a.m. for two missing crewmen from the fishing vessel Katmai that sank 100 miles west of Adak.

Carlos Martin Zabala and Robert Davis were part of the 11-man crew aboard the fishing vessel Katmai. The vessel started taking on water early Tuesday morning, four crewmembers survived.

The Coast Guard Cutter Acushnet from Ketchikan, MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters and HC-130 Hercules airplanes from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, Air National Guard HC-130 Hercules from the 211th Rescue Squadron, HH-60 Pave Hawk from the 210th Rescue Squadron and Pararescue jumpers from the 212th Rescue Squadron searched 4,871 square miles of ocean over the past week.

“While our minds remain on Coast Guard missions, our hearts are with the families during this difficult time,” said Captain Mike Inman, Chief of Response for the 17th Coast Guard District.
