Coast Guard suspends search for possible swimmer in distress

HONOLULU—The Coast Guard suspended the search for a possible swimmer in distress in Kakapa Bay on the Big Island, Friday.

Active searching was suspended at approximately 5:51 p.m. pending any further developments.

Coast Guard air and surface assets covered approximately 1,604.83 square nautical miles during approximately 24 hours of searching.

The Hawaii County Fire Department also conducted shoreline searches with a rescue boat, a helicopter and crews on shore.

There have been no reports of a missing person to the Coast Guard or local authorities.
