Coast Guard suspends search for possible person in the water near New London, CT

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a possible person in the water near New London, Conn.

New London police received a 911-call at approximately 7:00 p.m. from someone stating they saw an individual enter the water near Ocean Beach Park and not resurface.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) and launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station New London.

The New London police and local lifeguards searched from the beach using spotlights. A commercial fishing vessel also aided with search efforts.

The Coast Guard reminds the public to be vigilant not only while on the water, but on shore too. If you see individuals swimming and are in trouble, please call 911 to report the emergency.
