Coast Guard suspends search for possible missing swimmer near St. John’s River south jetties

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a possible missing swimmer near the St. John’s River south jetties Friday.

The missing swimmer was described as a 30-year-old male with dark hair. The reporting source indicated the swimmer was last seen near the jetty rocks.

“We have conducted an exhaustive search of the area based on the information we have. We are suspending our active search pending the development of new information,” said Cmdr. Patrick Schreiber, chief of response, Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville.

A 25-foot rescue boat crew and a 47-foot motor life boat from Coast Guard Station Mayport, an FWC boat crew and a JSO helicopter crew are on-scene searching. The Navy also provided a helicopter crew in the search.
