Coast Guard suspends search for possible missing kayaker off Maine

BOSTON — The Coast Guard suspended the search for the possible missing kayaker off Maine Thursday morning after exhausting all search possibilities.

A man broadcasted mayday three times over the radio at about 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, and Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received the hail. Through a broken radio transmission, it is believed the man fell out of his kayak and is in the vicinity of Bois Bubert Island.

The Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, Maine Marine Patrol and other partner agencies searched over 456 sq. miles and for more than 18 hours without success.
