Coast Guard suspends search for people from overturned vessel

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard has suspended its search for possible people in the water in relation to an overturned vessel approximately 300 miles south of Pensacola, Florida, Monday.

The Coast Guard located the vessel at approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday and searched a total of approximately 1,486 square nautical miles for over eight-and-a-half hours with no signs of people in distress in the water.

Involved in the search were:

  • An HC-130H Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida.
  • An HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama.
  • Good Samaritans aboard the vessels Clipper Lasco, Bibby Sapphire, and American Endurance.
