Coast Guard suspends search for overdue kayaker near Montville, Conn.

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard and other local agencies suspended the active search at sunset, Monday, for a overdue kayaker near Montville, Connecticut.

Missing is Lyle Dagenias, 31, last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt and jeans.

“Suspending a search is a difficult decision to make,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer John Colella, command duty officer of Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and loved ones effected.”

Responders searched for approximately 15 hours covering roughly 80- square nautical miles.

Involved in the search include:

  • Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod helicopter aircrew
  • Coast Guard Station New London
  • Connecticut State Police
  • Gales Ferry Fire department
  • Montville Police Department
  • Norwich Police Department

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received notification of the overdue kayaker at approximately 1:30 A.M., Monday, from the Montville Police Department.
