Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Woman Near Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 44-year-old woman who went missing Sunday after falling into the water from aboard an inflatable raft in the Delaware River Sunday near No Name Island near Philadelphia.

Missing is Maribel Gonzalez of Richmond Hill, N.Y.

The Coast Guard received a call at 5:33 p.m. from a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department reporting a 20-foot boat with with seven people aboard became disabled and adrift. Two of the passengers boarded an inflatable raft that was tied along side the boat. One of the passengers aboard the inflatable raft was Gonzalez and she slipped into the water, was not wearing a life jacket and is missing.

The Coast Guard and local authorities searched a total of 44.5 square nautical miles and a total of 13.3 hours.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Cleat, members of the New Jersey State Police, the Philadelphia Marine Police, the Philadelphia Fire Department and Gloucester County Fire and Rescue searched for Gonzalez.
