Coast Guard suspends search for missing woman near Knotts Island, NC

KNOTTS ISLAND, N.C. — The Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing 35-year-old woman at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Coast Guard response boat crews from Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City and HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City searched 138 square miles over a 22-hour period for the woman.

The missing woman was reported to have been on a boat with two other people when it capsized at approximately 11 a.m. Monday.

A good Samaritan rescued two of the people in the water and notified Currituck County Dispatch, who then called Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector North Carolina.
