CLEVELAND – The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for two missing men, who were last seen swimming near Saugatuck Dunes State Park, Mich., at about 4 p.m., Tuesday.
Search crews from Coast Guard Stations Holland and Grand Haven, Mich.; Coast Guard Air Facility Muskegon, Mich.; Coast Guard Air Station Detroit; and a Canadian C-130 aircraft searched for more than 25 hours in an area covering more than 439 square nautical miles. Allegan County Fire and Rescue also greatly contributed to the search.
The Coast Guard suspends a search and rescue case with extreme care and deliberation. After a probable search area is saturated several times with a maximum number of assets, resources and crew effort, and persons in distress are still not located, a decision is made to suspend a case.
The Coast Guard can resume a search if credible information is received that persons reported missing have survived.
