Coast Guard suspends search for missing swimmer near Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (D5 Public Affairs) – The Coast Guard suspended its search Sunday for a missing 21-year-old man who disappeared while swimming with a friend near the Talcony-Palmyra Bridge here.

The Coast Guard suspended its search for Sandro Valentine at 10:40 p.m.

The Coast Guard received a call at 7:21 p.m. Sunday from a member of the Philadelphia Police Department reporting Valentine disappeared under the water after he was caught in a strong current while swimming.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia, members of the Philadelphia Police Department, members of Philadelphia Fire and Rescue and Swift Water Rescue searched for the man.
