MOBILE, Ala. – The Coast Guard suspended its search Sunday for a swimmer reported missing near Panama City, Fla.
Missing is Estella Stevenson.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile’s command center received notification that a 32-year-old woman reportedly went missing while swimming with her boyfriend and nephew near the Panama City Pier, at approximately 8 p.m., Friday. Rescue boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Panama City along with the Panama City Police Department and Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife as well as a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans assisted in the search.
“Suspending an active search is the hardest decision we have to make, we never make it lightly,” said Ensign Israel Parker, the public affairs officer at Sector Mobile. “Despite an exhaustive search of the area, we were unable to locate Ms. Stevenson.”
