MIAMI – Coast Guard Search and Rescue coordinators at Sector Miami have suspended their search for a missing 23-year-old swimmer near Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Two Coast Guard 33-foot Special Purpose boats from Station Fort Lauderdale and Station Lake Worth Inlet, Fla., a 41-foot Utility boat from Station Fort Lauderdale and a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Miami dedicated 22 hours searching for Ricardo Lewis.
Fort Lauderdale Police Department officers, Fort Lauderdale Fire and Rescue personnel and dive team, as well as a Broward County Sheriff’s Officer helicopter crew were also involved with the search.
“It never easy making the decision to suspend a search,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Jennifer Johnson, Coast Guard Seventh District public affairs specialist . “Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
