LOS ANGELES — The Coast Guard suspended their search for a missing swimmer near Bolsa Chica State Beach Sunday, pending further developments.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a call from a good Samaritan at 5:17 p.m., Saturday, reporting that Shaun Linn, an 18-year-old male, entered the water and did not return to the surface approximately 50-100 yards from the beach.
The Coast Guard launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Forward Operating Base Point Mugu, a 45-foot Response boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles and Coast Guard Cutter Blacktip, an 87-foot patrol boat, homeported in Oxnard, to search for Linn.
Coast Guard crews searched a 120 sq mile search area for more than 15 hours.
Members of Bolsa Chica State Park Lifeguards, Huntington Beach Harbor Patrol and a helicopter from Orange County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the search.
Linn was reported to be last seen wearing red and white trunks. If anyone has any information regarding Linn, please contact Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach command center at (310) 521-3801.
The Coast Guard urges swimmers and mariners to always:
- Wear life jackets while on the water.
- Never swim alone, and swim near shores with lifeguard supervision.
- Be aware when swimming near piers and jetties, as riptides often form near these structures.
- Swim parallel to the coast if caught in a rip current.
- Stay informed of weather in the area.
