Coast Guard suspends search for missing swimmer, determines other as false report

HOUSTON— The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a man who went missing while swimming on Monday, and determined a second case was a false report, Wednesday.

The Coast Guard received a report that the Galveston Police Department recovered a 23-year old man early Wednesday morning. The man was confirmed as the person who went missing at 29th and Seawall, Monday.

Meanwhile, reports from witnesses gathered at the scene of the 30-year old man who was reported to have went missing at 59th and Seawall, Tuesday, have led officials to believe the man was not ever in distress. Lifeguards reported seeing the man struggling, but loss sight of him and never saw him submerge.

The Coast Guard reminds the public to enjoy Texas-area beaches but to swim with caution, and heed all warnings, posted and otherwise, from officials concerning beach conditions.
