HOUSTON — The Coast Guard has suspended their search for a man reported missing while swimming off the Galveston coast.

Missing is Chris Jackson, 18, of League City.

Another man who was swimming with Jackson called the Galveston Police Department at approximately 8:30 p.m., on Friday to report that Jackson hadn’t resurfaced after both men were overtaken by a large wave. Coast Guard crewmembers searched for Jackson with MH-65D Dolphin helicopters from Air Station Houston and 45-foot Response Boat — Mediums from Coast Guard Station Freeport.

“Suspending a search is not a decision made lightly,” said Elvie Damaso, Command Duty Officer with Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston. “Our boat and aircrews saturated the area of San Luis Pass, searching exhaustively for more than 22 hours. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Jackson at this difficult time.”
