AURORA, N.C. – The Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing man near Muddy Creek, N.C., 11 p.m., Saturday.
A 23-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Hobucken and an HH-60 Jayhawk Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., searched approximately 26 square miles of the Pamlico River and the surrounding shoreline for 11 hours.
Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders received a phone call at 1:59 p.m., Saturday, from a good Samaritan, reporting that an 18 to 20-foot skiff was going in circles without an operator aboard.
It was confirmed that the missing man departed on the skiff earlier in the day.
