Coast Guard suspends search for missing NY man

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing boater near Sands Point, July 31, 2014.

Missing is 43-year old Scott Donsavage.

Donsavage was last seen by his wife around 10 p.m., July 29, before he got underway aboard his 15-foot vessel from a boat launch in Mamaroneck. His vessel was found ashore in gear with no one aboard.

He is described as 5’11”, weighing 180 pounds and was wearing a black shirt, red hat and shorts.

The Coast Guard searched for more than 24 hours covering more than 276 square miles, roughly eight times the size of Manhattan.

Assets involved in the search were:

  • Rescue boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Kings Point and Eatons Neck
  • Rescue helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and Atlantic City
  • Coast Guard Cutter Ridley
  • Nassau County Police Department aviation and marine units
  • Sands County Police Department
