BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard suspended its search Monday for a man missing on the Chesapeake Bay in the vicinity of Kent Island north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Coast Guard and partner agencies searched for the missing boater from approximately 5 p.m. Sunday until 9:30 a.m. Monday. The search encompassed an area of approximately 90 square miles.
The search began at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday when personnel from the Maryland Natural Resources Police contacted Coast Guard Sector Baltimore Command Center watchstanders and reported a capsized boat.
MNRP rescued four individuals who were aboard the boat when it capsized.
MNRP and local agencies remain on scene with divers and crews using side scan sonar equipment.
The search involved crews from Coast Guard Station Annapolis, MNRP, Maryland State Police and the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
