KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a person reported missing in Captain’s Bay, approximately six miles southwest of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew conducted five separate searches, along with numerous other good samaritan vessels and Unalaska public safety office personnel searched a total of 2.5 hours over 17 miles saturating Captain’s Bay in efforts to find the missing man.
“After saturating Captain’s Bay and exhausting all resources available to search for this man, the Coast Guard has made the difficult decision to suspend the search,” said Lt. Stephen Nolan, a District 17 Command Center Command Duty Officer. “Our hearts are with this man’s family during this time.”
Weather on scene was reported as, winds out of the southeast at 24 mph, seas were choppy with a water temperature of approximately 50 degrees.
