Coast Guard suspends search for missing man

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard suspended the search for a man described to be in his 20’s who was reported to be in distress just off of Golden Gardens Beach, here, Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector Seattle received a call at 8:45 p.m., from a group of beach goers reporting that they saw a man described to be in his 20’s, wearing white shorts and no shirt, in distress and calling for help.

Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., diverted an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew and Station Seattle launched a 25-foot small boat crew to assist.

The Seattle Fire Department launched a fire boat crew to the area along with several on shore units, as well as one vessel from the Seattle Harbor Patrol and several shore side Seattle Police Department units.

Once on scene, the fire boat crew picked up a Good Samaritan surfer who had paddled out to try and assist the man in the water. Both the beach goers and the surfer had lost sight of the man.

Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of the missing man should contact Coast Guard Sector Seattle at (206) 217-6001.
