Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Man

WAUKEGAN, Ill. — The Coast Guard suspended its search today at approximately 1 p.m. for 44-year-old Walter Doroba.

Coast Guard Station Kenosha and Air Station Traverse City commenced a search Sunday evening, when Doroba became overdue from kayaking one mile offshore of Waukegan.

A good samaritan fishing in the area notified the Coast Guard after seeing his overturned green canoe.

The man’s lifevest and registration were found onshore near the Commonwealth and Edison stacks.

The Coast Guard searched with a 25-foot small response boat crew and an HH-65 rescue helicopter from Air Station Traverse City for approximately 18 hours.
