ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard suspended its search today for a kite surfer who was reported to be tangled in his kite’s ropes Wednesday about six miles south of Cape Henlopen, Del.
The search began at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when an observer on shore contacted the local 911 emergency dispatch operator, who in turn notified the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard searched more than 824 overlapping square miles, totaling 15 search hours. The search has been suspended pending further information.
Searching were crewmembers from:
- Coast Guard Station Indian River, Del.
- Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous, homeported in Cape May, N.J.
- HH-65C Dolphin helicopter rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City
- A C-130 Hercules airplane crew from Elizabeth City, N.C.
