Coast Guard suspends search for missing kayakers

25-foot response boatMEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Coast Guard suspended the search for two kayakers in Memphis, around 8:20 a.m., Saturday.

The Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis Fire Department, Memphis Police Department and Good Samaritan crews searched for two kayakers who were reportedly missing from the Wolf River Chute area.

Rescue crews began their search after Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi received notification from Good Samaritans that a kayak overturned resulting in two people in the water yesterday morning.

“We would like to extend a special thanks to the other agencies and volunteers for their support in the search effort,” said Capt. Timothy Wendt, Commander, Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River.
