Coast Guard suspends search for missing kayaker

Coast Guard District 11 NewsSAN FRANCISCO — Coast Guard crews have suspended the search for a 56-year-old male kayaker who went missing near Pier 80 in San Francisco Bay at 9:27 a.m., Monday.

Sector San Francisco watchstanders were notified that a kayak had capsized at 2:41 p.m. Sunday over channel 16 by a professional mariner who was mooring a motor vessel in the vicinity.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Pike, a 87-foot Coastal Patrol Boat, a 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station San Francisco, a Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco, HH-65 rescue helicopter crew, and San Francisco Police Department and Fire Department personnel were on scene searching for the man.

The Coast Guard searched for approximately 18 hours.
