Coast Guard suspends search for missing fishing vessel master in Gulf of Mexico

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard has suspended its active search, pending further developments, for the master of the fishing vessel Miss Carol at approximately 1 p.m., Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at approximately 1:05 a.m. Monday, from a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel Tommy Gun relaying for the crew of the 85-foot fishing vessel Miss Carol, that the master of the Miss Carol was missing. Keit Ngyuen, master of the Miss Carol, was last seen at approximately 12 a.m., Monday.

The Coast Guard searched approximately 1,985 square miles and utilized the following assets:

* Coast Guard Cutter Manta, homeported in Freeport
* Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew
* Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144A Ocean Sentry
* Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi HU-25 Falcon Jet and crew

With no new leads or correlating information the Coast Guard has suspended the active search for the missing captain and may resume the search if new information is received.
