Coast Guard suspends search for missing fisherman

MONTEREY, Calif. – The Coast Guard suspended its search for a 46-year-old missing fisherman from the fishing vessel Della C, today at 1:46 p.m.

Coast Guard crews began searching for fisherman Benson Nguyen, of Marina, Calif. yesterday afternoon, after his vessel overturned and sank and continued the search throughout the night and into daylight hours.

The search was suspended after the Coast Guard crews could not locate Nguyen. The Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast, a “Dolphin” helicopter from Air Station San Francisco, and a 47 foot Motor Life Boat from Station Monterey searched yesterday and today for the missing fisherman, and covered a search area of approximately 615 nautical miles.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary assisted with the search today by covering over 23 miles of shoreline.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Nguyen during this difficult time.
