Coast Guard suspends search for missing fisherman

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard suspended the search for a man who fell overboard from a fishing vessel 80 miles west of the mouth of the Columbia River Tuesday.

The search was suspended at 9 p.m. Tuesday evening after helicopter crews from Coast Guard Group/Air Station Astoria, a Good Samaritan and the fishing vessel Zarhina searched an area of approximately 30 square miles for over seven hours.

Coast Guard Group/Air Astoria, Ore., received a radio call from the fishing vessel Zarhina reporting a man had fallen overboard at 12:39 p.m.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
