HOUSTON — The Coast Guard has suspended their search for a 48-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy reported missing in San Luis Pass off Galveston.

Missing are Raul Alfonso Stothart of Missouri City and his son, Chandler Stothart.

The family of the missing individuals called the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office reporting that while swimming in San Luis Pass the 10-year-old child had called for help. When the father of the child ran into the water to assist the family reported losing sight of both the father and the child.

Coast Guard crewmembers searched exhaustively for 25 hours aboard an MH-65D Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Houston and a 45-foot Response Boat — Medium from Coast Guard Station Freeport.

Other search agencies included:

  • And numerous good Samaritans in the area

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” said Lt. Spencer Roach, command duty officer for Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston. “We have exhausted every effort conducting a robust search in attempts to locate Mr. Stothart and we appreciate the assistance of all of the agencies and personnel who have volunteered their time and resources to assist with the search-and-rescue efforts.”
