Coast Guard suspends search for missing diver 7 miles south of Summerland Key

KEY WEST, Fla. — The Coast Guard suspended its search for a 73-year old missing diver 7 miles south of Summerland Key on Thursday.

Missing is Jacqueline Dunmire.

After searching 2,119 square-nautical miles for over 106 hours, officials were unable to locate Dunmire who was reported missing Tuesday.

“The Coast Guard’s search and rescue mission is one we take very personally, and it is never easy suspending a search,” said Capt. Adam Chamie, Commander of Coast Guard Sector Key West. “Despite our best efforts, we were not able to locate Ms. Dunmire, and our hearts go out to the entire family.”

Over 18 assets where involved in the search including small boats from Coast Guard Station Key West, Coast Guard Cutters Raymond Evans and Tarpon, Coast Guard and Navy helicopters, fixed-wing Coast Guard aircraft, as well as dive teams from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and Army Special Forces Underwater Operations School.
