NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard has suspended the search for the 77-year-old cruise ship passenger who went missing yesterday.
The Coast Guard began the search for the missing passenger yesterday after the Carnival Cruise Ship Fantasy reported that one of their passengers was unaccounted for after mooring at the Port of New Orleans.
The Coast Guard searched approximately 400-square-miles in the Gulf of Mexico and part of the Mississippi River from the Southwest Pass at the mouth of the river, north to the Port of New Orleans.
Searching was:
- An HU-25 Guardian Falcon Jet and crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Ala.
- A Coast Guard Auxiliary plane from New Orleans.
- A 33-foot small boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Venice, La.
- An HH-65C rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, La.
- An 87-foot patrol boat the Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon homeported in Grand Isle, La.
