CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a two-day effort, the Coast Guard has suspended its active search today at 3 p.m. for Ernesto Guerrero, a Mexican national who went missing while aboard a shrimp boat 44 miles east of Port Aransas on March 23, 2009.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at 2:56 a.m. March 24, 2009, that a crewmember aboard a 76-foot shrimp boat, Captain Eddie, had been missing and was last seen at 9 p.m. the day before.
Coast Guard crews searched an area larger than 1,600 square miles during the search and rescue effort.
The following Coast Guard units were used during the search:
- HH-65CDolphin rescue helicopter crews from Air Station Corpus Christi
- HU-25 Falcon jet crews from Air Station Corpus Christi
- The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Brant from Sector Corpus Christi
