Coast Guard suspends search for missing crewmember

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard suspended its search today for Jackson Ragan, 18, of Aubrey, Ark., after conducting multiple searches with negative results.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received the initial report at 11:40 p.m. Monday from a crewmember aboard the towing vessel, Jeffrey G, reporting that Ragan was missing from the vessel just south of LaPlace, La.

The Coast Guard conducted 11 searches, spanning an area of over 30 miles of the Mississippi River, from the Gramercy Bridge at mile marker 145 to mile marker 110 using 41-foot small boats and crews from Station New Orleans and HH-65C rescue helicopters and crews from Air Station New Orleans.
