Coast Guard suspends search for missing crab fisherman

Pacific Northwest Coast Guard NewsNEWPORT, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued three crab fishermen and has suspended the search for a fourth approximately 2½ miles west of Newport, Tuesday.

A 47-foot motor lifeboat crew and a 25-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport continued to search for a fourth person who was aboard the vessel until the search was suspended at 1:15 p.m..

The Coast Guard suspended the search due to the impossibility of survival resulting from the amount of time the fourth person had been in the water.
