Coast Guard suspends search for missing boater near Haulover Inlet, Fla.

MIAMI — The Coast Guard and local agencies suspend the search for a missing 22-year-old man after his body was found a half mile east of Haulover Beach, Fla., at approximately 4 p.m. Monday.

A Miami-Dade Police Department dive unit located and transfered the body to EMS crews waiting on the beach.

A Miami-Dade Police Department dispatcher contacted waterstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami and reported a boat with two people aboard taking on water and capsizing.  One of the men aboard the baot swam to shore and contacted local police to report he and his friend attempted to swim to the shoreline when he lost sight of him.

Coast Guard and local rescue agency crews were launched and searched approximately two miles offshore and six miles north of Haulover Beach.

  • Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, Fla.
  • A Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew
  • Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)
  • Miami-Dade Police Department
  • Sunny Isles Police Department
  • Bal Harbour Police Department
