Coast Guard suspends search for man missing near Panama City

MOBILE, La. — The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for a man that went missing approximately 1 mile south of Panama City, Fla., Tuesday.

Coast Guard Station Panama City, Fla. received a report at approximately 3 p.m., Monday, from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, that a man had jumped from a 30-foot recreational vessel and had not surfaced.

The following Coast Guard units searched last night and continued the search at first light this morning:

  • Coast Guard Cutter Seahawk and crew, homeported in Carrabelle, Fla.
  • A 41-foot response boat and crew from Station Panama City
  • Coast Guard Auxiliary vessels and members conducting shoreline searches

The Coast Guard searched along with the FWC, Panama City Sheriff’s Marine Patrol Unit and the Panama City Fire Department.
