Coast Guard suspends search for man missing near Key Largo, Fla.

MIAMI – Coast Guard search and rescue coordinators at the Seventh District Command Center suspended their search for William Mark Adair, a 45-year-old man missing near John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo, Fla., at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Coast Guard crews aboard a small boat from Station Islamorada, Fla., a C-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircraft and HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Clearwater, an HU-25 Falcon jet and HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Miami searched more than 3,448 square miles since Adair was reported missing Tuesday.

Crewmembers at Station Islamorada received a call from a family friend stating Adair, of Bonita Springs, Fla., was last heard from via text message around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The text message reportedly stated he was heading back into the park.
