Coast Guard suspends search for man in Currituck Sound, NC

29 New LondonWILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard suspended its search for a man last seen in Currituck Sound, west of Knotts Island, North Carolina, at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday.

Coast Guard 29-foot Response Boat-Small crews and MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crews out of Air Station Elizabeth City searched more than 20 hours, covering 95 square miles since the search began Saturday.

North Carolina Fish and Wildlife, Currituck County Sheriff’s Dept., and good Samaritan crews aided in the search.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the missing man’s family tonight,” said Chief Petty Officer Seth Haynes, command duty officer for Sector North Carolina.
