ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search Sunday for a man on the waters near Hatteras Island.
Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders received a report Saturday at 11 p.m. from a good Samaritan of a 40-year-old man overdue from Frisco.
A 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew launched from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet to search for the man. An MH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City launched and arrived on scene.
Hunting gear was found matching the description of what the overdue man had aboard his 23-foot boat.
Coast Guard crews searched for approximately eight hours and covered more than 33 miles.
Crews from Hatteras Island Rescue aided in the search.
