BOSTON — The Coast Guard suspended its search at about 1:30 p.m., Saturday, for the 31-year-old Maine man who fell overboard from the fishing boat he was on about 125 miles east of Truro, Mass., Friday afternoon.
Coast Guard crews and several fishing boats covered 1,330 square miles during the search for Chris Hopkins, from Bass Harbor, Maine, but weren’t able find him.
Helicopter and jet crews from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., the 210-foot Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous from Cape May, N.J., and five fishing vessels scoured the area in hopes of finding Hopkins.
The crew of the 63-foot stern trawler Bella Rose, homeported in Bass Harbor, radioed for help about 12:30 p.m., Friday when they realized that Hopkins, who had been on board with them, was missing.
