GUADALUPE, Calif. – The Coast Guard suspended its search this afternoon for a 9-year-old boy who had reportedly been swept off the beach yesterday afternoon.
At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach received the initial report that a boy had been swept off the shore of a beach located near Mussel Point at the North end of Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The Coast Guard immediately launched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Morro Bay and diverted an HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles to conduct a search in coordination with the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department, Santa Barbara Search and Rescue Team, Santa Barbara Fire Department, Vandenberg Air Force Base Water Rescue and Guadalupe Fire Department.
Search efforts continued throughout the night. The search included over 332 nautical miles and was suspended after the search efforts did not locate the person in the water.
