Coast Guard suspends search for 47-year old man off Matagorda

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a 47-year hold Hispanic male reported to have gone overboard a 60-foot shrimping vessel.

Watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston received a call July 17, 2009, at approximately 9 p.m. from a crewmember on board the 60-foot shrimping boat Wylie Milam reporting a fellow crewmember had fallen overboard. The following Coast Guard assets were utilized during this search and rescue effort:

  • Air Station Houston MH-65C rescue helicopter crew
  • Air Station Corpus Christi HH-65C rescue helicopter crew
  • Air Station Corpus Christi HU-25 Falcon jet crew
  • Coast Guard Cutter Skipjack, homeported in Galveston
  • 41-foot rescue boat crew from Station Freeport

The Coast Guard searched approximately 2,077 square nautical miles for a total of 51.25 hours.
