BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard suspended its search at 2:01 p.m., Saturday for four people aboard a boat reportedly taking on water in the Middle River.
Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders began coordinating the multi-agency search after receiving a mayday call via marine-band radio channel 16 from the operator of the vessel in distress at 2:48 a.m., reporting that his 28-foot pleasure craft had one adult and three children aboard and was taking on water.
The following agencies and crews assisted in the search:
- A 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Curtis Bay, Md.
- A 25-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Stillpond, Md.
- Two HH-65 Dolphin helicopter rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J.
- A Tow Boat U.S. boatcrew
- A Maryland State Police helicopter rescue crew
- Baltimore County Fire Rescue marine and shore units
- A Baltimore County Police Department shore unit
- A Maryland Natural Resources Police boatcrew
The rescue crews collaboratively searched a track line of 141 nautical miles throughout the night and continued searches through the morning lasting approximately eight hours.
The search is suspended pending further developments.
