Coast Guard suspends search for 2 people after vessel sinks

Coast Guard Sector Lower MIssissippi River LogoMEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Coast Guard suspended their search for two people whose vessel sank in the Mississippi River near Memphis, Tennessee, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River and local agency assets searched approximately 29 hours and 324 nautical miles of river.

Involved in the search were:

  • Sector Lower Mississippi River 29-foot Response Boat-Small boatcrew
  • Memphis Police Department Aviation
  • Memphis Police Department Harbor Patrol
  • 3 Shelby County Sheriff’s Office vessels
  • Tennessee Fish and Game

“Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the missing people,” said Capt. Roxanne Tamez, commander, Sector Lower Mississippi River. “We would like to extend a special thanks to the other agencies for their support in the search effort.”

Sector Lower Mississippi River watchstanders received a notification Friday of the 66-foot motor vessel Ricky Robinson owned by Wepfer Marine Inc. sinking with two people aboard.
