NEW YORK – The Coast Guard has suspended its search for two missing individuals near Fairfield, Conn., Saturday afternoon.
Missing are two Hispanic men in their mid-20s.
The search was suspended around 2:00 p.m., Saturday after searching a 22-square mile area surrounding Penfield Reef.
At approximately 7:45 a.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center were notified by the Fairfield Police Department that six people fishing near Penfield Reef were swept out to sea.
Three of the individuals were able to make it to shore on their own and a Fairfield Marine Unit rescued the fourth person. However, the two others could not be located.
The command center issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) and launched a rescue crew from Coast Guard Station New Haven aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium.

- A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew
- Fairfield Police Department Marine Unit
- Bridgeport Fire Department Marine Unit
