Coast Guard suspends search for 2 boaters on Severn River

45 3BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard suspended their search Tuesday for two missing boaters on the Severn River near Annapolis.

Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders received a report Tuesday at approximately 11 a.m. from Anne Arundel 911 dispatch personnel of a person in the water.

Anne Arundel 911 received the report from two bystanders on shore, stating the bystanders heard screaming and witnessed one person in the water go under and not resurface.

A separate report came in, which responders correlated to the initial report, stating there were two overdue boaters.

A boat crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat – Medium launched from Coast Guard Station Annapolis to search for the boaters.

Debris was found matching the description of what the two overdue boaters had aboard their 14-foot boat.

Coast Guard crews searched for approximately six hours and covered more than 50 linear miles.

Boat crews from Coast Guard Station Annapolis, Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department, Anne Arundel Fire and a helicopter crew from Maryland State Police aided in the search.
