ANCHORAGE, Alaska —The Coast Guard has suspended its search for potential persons in the water east of Whittier, Monday.

The owner of the boat has been located and the Coast Guard has confirmed there is no-one in distress.

“We understand that accidents happen and appreciate the owner of the boat coming forward and letting us know that his boat drifted away,” said Mike McNeil, command duty officer for the case. “Folks are reminded to double check that their boats are secure when not in use.”

Involved in the search were:

  • An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak
  • A response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Valdez
  • A Coast Guard Auxiliary crew
