Coast Guard Suspends Search After 3 Days

NAPLES, Fla. – The Coast Guard suspended its three-day search for a person in the water about 10-nautical-miles west of Gordon’s Pass, near Naples, Fla., at 7:15 p.m. today.

Missing is Delarosa Alvarez, 21, of Hialeah, Fla.

Radaniel Cruz, 21, of Hialeah, was pulled from the water by a good Samaritan at 11:45 a.m. Saturday near Gordon’s Pass. Cruz reported that he was in a 34-foot, white and yellow vessel with two other people aboard when it capsized near Gordon’s Pass.

Walfrido Alvarez, 35, of Hialeah, was rescued near Gordon’s Pass at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday by a rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, in Fort Myers, Fla.

The two survivors were brought to Naples Community Hospital where they remain in stable condition.

Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, the Coast Guard Cutter Marlin, Capri Fire and Rescue, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search for Alvarez. The rescue crews searched 2,684-square-miles, an area about the size of Dade County, with no sign of Alvarez.

FWC is investigating the incident.
