Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach recovers man from channel

5th Coast Guard District NewsWRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — A Coast Guard boat crew from Station Wrightsville Beach recovered a 68-year-old man from the Wrightsville Beach Channel at approximately 11 a.m. Monday.

Coast Guard and local emergency medical services personnel attempted to resuscitate the man until he was declared deceased by EMS.

The Coast Guard received the initial call from personnel at Marine Max Boat Sales, reporting that the man had piloted the boat through the channel with an apparent injury. While Station Wrightsville Beach boat crews launched to investigate, the man fell from his boat into the water. The boat continued to travel until it allided with the seawall.

The Coast Guard and North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission members are investigating the cause of the incident.
