Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach medevacs injured woman from sailboat near Wilmington, NC

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced an injured woman from a grounded sailboat Sunday just east of Seagate.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received a call at approximately 3:15 p.m., reporting a 38-foot Sundancer sailboat ran aground with a man, woman and two children aboard about one mile south of Bradley Creek near Money Island.

A crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small was launched from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach.

A good Samaritan with friends of the grounded family arrived on scene and transferred the children aboard his boat.

The Coast Guard RBS crew arrived on scene and found the man waiting with the woman. The woman suffered a head injury, so the Coast Guard crew placed the woman in a stokes litter and brought her aboard their response boat.

She was taken to Bradley Creek Marina in Wilmington and placed in the care of awaiting New Hanover County EMS.

She was reported to be in stable condition.

TowBoat U.S. is attempting to float the grounded sailboat, which is outside the channel and does not present a hazard to navigation.
